Walk through Lapland's most photographed winter forest — snow-crowned trees as far as the eye can see. Join a small guided group, or take the bus and walk it on your own.

Riisitunturi is famous for its tykky — thick crown snow that bends the pine trees into frozen sculptures. The marked 4.3 km trail climbs at an easy-to-moderate pace to the 465-metre summit, through a forest that stands silent under the weight of the snow.
There are two ways to do it: guided, with pickup from a point you choose, a campfire break and photographs of your day — or self-guided, taking the bus out and walking the trail with a printed route flyer. The walk is the same; everything around it differs.
Comfortable 8-seater van from Rovaniemi — about 2.5 hours each way through Lapland scenery.
English-speaking, trail-wise guides who know the park, its story and its best viewpoints.
Sausage grilling and hot drinks by the fire, deep in the national park.
Your guide photographs the day — the gallery is shared with you afterwards.
The Bus Tour includes none of these. It is self-guided: no pickup, no guide, no photos, no campfire — just the same trail and a ride there. See the comparison below.
Both options walk the same 4.3 km marked trail in the same national park. What differs is everything around the walk.
There is a toilet on board the bus. Both options run through the winter season; pick a date below to see which ones depart that day.
We collect you from the pickup point you chose in Rovaniemi and head east — a scenic 2.5-hour drive with your guide.
4.3 km on a marked trail, easy to moderate for the most part — suitable from age 6 with moderate fitness.
Sausages on the fire, hot drinks in hand, tykky trees all around.
Return drive to Rovaniemi — photos delivered to the whole group afterwards.
"The pines are laden with tykky snow — a landscape you simply don't see anywhere else in the world."
Best from December to March
Both walk the same 4.3 km marked trail in Riisitunturi National Park. The Guided Hike leaves at 08:30 every day, picks you up from a pickup point of your choice in the Rovaniemi area and brings you back, and a guide walks the route with you — professional photos and a campfire break with sausages and hot drinks are part of it. The Bus Tour is self-guided and runs four days a week. There is no pickup: it leaves from the bus stop at Korkalonkatu 23 next to Pub Uitto, and returns from Riisitunturi at 14:00 with a service-station stop on the way. You are handed a printed flyer with the route and walk it yourself — no guide, no photos and no campfire.
Easy to moderate for the most part — 4.3 km on a marked trail. Suitable for ages 6 and up with moderate fitness.
Warm layers, a hat, gloves and proper winter shoes. There's a heated van and a campfire break to warm up.
We operate in most winter weather. In extreme cold (around −20 to −25 °C) we may cancel for safety — with an immediate full refund.
Not always. The tykky snow and visibility depend on the weather — after a milder spell there may be less snow on the trees, and on cloudy days the view from the summit won't be as clear as on a bright, sunny day.
Yes — free cancellation up to 24 hours before the tour.
