Towering frozen waterfalls in Korouoma canyon, Lapland
Winter Day Trip · December–March

Korouoma Frozen Waterfalls

Hike a hidden canyon where waterfalls freeze into walls of blue ice — a group of max 8, far from the crowds.

The Canyon Of Frozen Falls

Lapland's hidden ice cathedral

Korouoma is a deep fracture valley near Posio, about a 1.5-hour scenic drive from Rovaniemi. In winter its waterfalls freeze into towering formations of blue and white ice — one of Finland's most striking natural sights, and still wonderfully quiet.

The guided 5 km hike takes around three hours through moderately challenging terrain: slippery in places, with height differences but nothing vertical. Your guide reads the landscape for you — wildlife, geology, local history — photographs the day, and pours the hot drinks at the break.
